  • Glenbog5

    A forest under immediate threat

Glenbog, 45 minutes northwest of Bega, is a rare high-elevation forest. NSW Forestry Corporation plans to log two areas that are vital strongholds for Greater Gliders and Yellow-bellied Gliders.

  • Glenbog4

    Logging in Glenbog

In January 2026, logging began here under the guise of a "roading operation". After taking 16 truckloads of trees, the machines left, but now they want to return.

  • Glenbog1

    A wildlife refuge

Glenbog is one of southern NSW's most important wildlife refuges. Citizen scientists have recorded high densities of threatened gliders, hundreds of wombat burrows and many hollow-bearing trees.

  • Glenbog10.webp

    Citizen scientists vs official counts

Citizen scientists found over 122 Greater Glider den trees in Glenbog. Forestry Corporation found just four, a clear example of the regulatory failures across native forest logging.

  • Glenbog6

    Burrows destroyed by logging

Logging elsewhere in Glenbog in 2014 may have buried up to 150 wombats in collapsed or sealed burrows. The area now planned for logging holds over 900 known burrows.

  • Glenbog9

A refuge from heat, fire and drought

This high-elevation forest helps wildlife survive extreme heat, bushfires and drought. Losing Glenbog would damage an entire ecosystem that is becoming increasingly rare.

  • Glenbog2

    Logging costs taxpayers

Most timber logged here will become export woodchips. NSW native forest logging loses money and relies on government subsidies, so taxpayers are effectively funding this destruction.
