PM Albanese has backed off to the Greens’ call for an end to native forest logging by abandoning his government’s promise of an environment protection agency and new environmental laws, the Bob Brown Foundation said in Hobart today.

“He was pressured by the mining and logging industries to dump any environmental advances. Despite growing demand from Labor voters as well as the Greens for an immediate end to native forest logging the PM was splintered by the big end of town.

Labor has followed the Coalition in ‘a decade of denial, delay, dysfunction and utter neglect’ on forest and wildlife policy,” said Bob Brown.

“A Dutton government would be a Trump-like disaster for Australia’s environment. But the logging destruction of native forests is an extinction time-bomb for dozens of birds and animals including the iconic koala and Albanese has done nothing for them. The minister for the environment Tanya Plibersek’s meagre efforts to act for endangered species have been repeatedly cut down by Albanese.”

“The Greens and some independents stand strong for protecting the forests. People alarmed by the rapid loss of nature should vote away from the big parties when they go to the polls next year,” Brown said
