Bob Brown bail conditions quashed

In Hobart today, the Chief Magistrate quashed bail conditions requiring Bob Brown to stay out of 810,000 hectares of Tasmania’s forests.

The conditions were imposed after Bob Brown was arrested on 19 February in Tasmania’s renowned Styx Valley of the Giants and charged with trespass while protesting against clearfell logging and burning of the forests.

“With forest protection now a major issue in the state election campaign, this wise decision overturns a totally unnecessary ban from entering publicly owned forests. I thank all those Tasmanians who have expressed their alarm at the original bail condition. I am emboldened to push for forests be a frontline election issue,” Bob Brown said.
