Bob Brown jubilant at Vica Bayley’s election

Former state and federal Greens leader Bob Brown says he is jubilant at Vica Bayley’s election to represent Clark in the House of Assembly.

“Vica is a worldly-wise man, born and bred in Tasmania, who sees our island state as a beacon of natural goodness in a rapidly deteriorating global environment. He will be a bastion for Tasmania’s clean, green lifestyle against the exploitative forces wanting to turn Tasmania into a clearfelled quarry. The team of Rosalie Woodruff and Vica Bayley will continue to keep the Greens being the real opposition for Tasmanians despairing of the Labor opposition trying to outdo the Liberals in fostering corporate override of public opinion, from aquaculture to cable cars to the destruction of Swift Parrot nesting forests.”

This election keeps alive the strong tradition of wilderness and heritage protection for Tasmania in non-Laborial Clark MPs stretching back to Norm Sanders, who was first elected in 1980, then Bob Brown, Peg Putt, Cassy O’Connor and now Vica Bayley.
