Community steps up for defence of Meunna rainforests

After Bob Brown Foundation’s halting of logging operations at remnant rainforest at Meunna on the northern edge of takayna, local community members have taken up the baton and halted further destruction of the rainforest coupe.

“Local people standing in defence of their special places, what could be more powerful than that?” said Bob Brown Foundation takayna / Tarkine Campaigner Scott Jordan.

“This forest is loved by this community. The wildlife, the rainforests and the streams all hold their hearts. They are willing to stand and defend it.”

Six locals have entered the coupe in the past 24 hours, halting the destruction on four separate occasions.

“We at Bob Brown Foundation are proud to stand with such passionate caring people. As Tasmania’s native forests come under constant logging assault, it is ever more important to have allies in this campaign for secure forest protection and an end to native forest logging.”

The peaceful defence of the Meunna forest continues into its fourth day.
