About this event

Kayaking Takayna's rivers for science

We will survey for the Azure Kingfisher along rivers that are known to be home of the species. Previous experience with kayaking is required, but we will only go to easy and slow moving river sections (no strong currents or boulders). Possibility to rent Kayak at the Tarkine Hotel.
We will meet in Corinna on the evening of Friday 29 January and have a bush camp nearby where we will set our tents and a communal tarp. Car-sleeping is a possibility. If you prefer to camp or book your own accommodation at Corinna Tarkine Hotel: feel welcome to.
We will survey on Saturday (all day) and Sunday morning around Corinna. We will split into small groups and cover different nearby rivers including the Pieman, Whyte, Savage and Donaldson Rivers. We will stop for lunch on the river banks. We will finish the surveys on Sunday after lunchtime.
Bring your own kayak or packraft… or rent it at the Corinna Wilderness Village (better to call them ASAP to book it). In terms of gear: bring clothes to stay warm and dry on the water, suncream, sunglasses, sunhat, and camping gear.

On Saturday evening, we will share a communal dinner (vegan and gluten free). We will also provide hot drinks. Please bring your own water, snacks, breakfast and lunches.
