Hands-on science and creativity for kids in Takayna

No registration required

About this event

As part of Bob Brown Foundation’s annual Takayna BioBlitz, we’re thrilled to present Takayna Kids, a weekend full of adventures designed for young citizen scientists. Children will get hands-on exploring Takayna’s incredible life, from searching for water bugs, moss and birdlife, to creating arts and crafts inspired by Takayna’s ancient ecosystems.

What we do
  • Support families in engaging with age-appropriate science related learning and activities
  • Encourage and facilitate art activism through creative expression
Offer the option to participate in a kids group performance presenting a short song or performance (approx. 5 minutes) to the whole event on Saturday night
  • Limit the Takayna Kids field trip program to approx. 10 - 15 children per day, ensuring a safe and supported experience
  • Families are welcome to join the regular BioBlitz field trips if they prefer not to participate in the Takayna Kids field trip program, or if the program reaches capacity. Sign-ups for all BioBlitz field trips happen nightly at BioBlitz HQ.
What we don’t do
  • The Takayna Kids program is not a child-minding or day-care service. Children must always be accompanied by a guardian, both at Riverbend and during field trips. We ask that each adult accompanies no more than four children at a time.
  • The program is not available outside of the advertised schedule. This means we won’t be running Takayna Kids-specific activities in the mornings before buses depart, or during the day at HQ while others are out on surveys.
  • Due to the remote nature of our survey locations, and the increased risk of vehicles getting bogged or damaged, we do not permit participants to use their own vehicles to travel to survey sites. This policy helps ensure everyone’s safety and allows us to manage transport logistics effectively.

All field trips will be coordinated using shared transport provided by the event team
