Peaceful protestors have returned to defend the ancient forests in logging coupe CZ022A in Waykaywirinu / Central Highlands. After stopping the controversial logging of CZ022A in June 2025 because of the community opposition, Forestry Tasmania has come back to continue the destruction of this fragile sub-alpine forest. Bob Brown Foundation activists are today blocking access to this ancient forest logging to demand, once again, native forest protection.

“This large scale forest destruction has been happening for far too long. By logging ancient and untouched sub-alpine Eucalyptus forests, Forestry Tasmania is carrying out the worst logging practices in the country,” said Dr Colette Harmsen from the forest frontline.

“Last year, we recorded critically endangered swift parrots, blue‑winged parrots and Tasmanian masked owls inside logging coupe CZ022A, which is now being cleared. This forest has a high density of hollow‑bearing trees—critical habitat for these three threatened cavity‑nesting species. We provided these observations to the Premier, Forestry Tasmania and the Forest Practices Authority, yet logging continues despite documented records of protected species on site. Logging must stop immediately, machines evicted and Premier Rockliff needs to permanently protect this forest as verified threatened‑species habitat,” said Bob Brown Foundation’s Campaigns Director Jenny Weber.
