Forest defenders setup takayna tree-sit protest

Conservationists have set up a protest and called for a cease to current logging in an area of native forest at Meunna on the northern edge of takayna. Administration officer Sinead Murphy (25) is suspended in a tree-sit defending native forests in the 15 hectare coupe.

“The world is facing an extinction crisis and a climate emergency, but here in Tasmania we are still logging the very forests that we need for species habitat and a safe climate,” said Bob Brown Foundation takayna / Tarkine Campaigner Scott Jordan.

“At a time when Victoria and Western Australia are exiting native forest logging, the Tasmanian Government wants to double down on logging of our precious native forests.”

“Enough is enough, the planet needs urgent action, not denial and destruction.”

These forests are a refuge, coupe PU043E contains remnant rainforest species in an area dominated by plantations. Bob Brown Foundation protested the removal of tree ferns from this site earlier in the year.
