Forest defenders have today returned to the Wentworth Hills forests to protest against ongoing logging destruction, while Bob Brown Foundation calls for new logging contracts to be sourced from plantation timber only. Tasmania Police are currently on site.

“Forestry Tasmania claims that logging contracts have been substantially completed, locking in ongoing native forest logging. If Premier Rockliff allows these contracts to be sealed, he will be knowingly squandering taxpayers’ money while doggedly ignoring the damages to the environment and climate from native forest logging,” said Jenny Weber.

“I have locked onto this gate in the Central Highlands in Tasmania. This gives me a chance to raise awareness about the ecocide going on here in this forest landscape that has been around for millennia, with centuries-old trees providing habitat for endangered species. I have spent half my life in the concrete jungle of Western Sydney before I left to find a healthier lifestyle. I immediately fell in love with Tassie’s wild places, and it makes me sad to see so much ancient forest unprotected. I’m making a stand for our ancient trees and hope our leaders will step up and do the right thing for our planet,” said Maria Teerman.
