Four arrests as logging in Swift Parrot habitat halted

Michael Montgomery (41), Anne-Louise Hill (30), Darren Harvey (56) and Celeste Bartel (33) were all arrested halting logging in documented Swift Parrot habitat west of Geeveston, Tasmania. They have all been charged with trespass.

“It was the public and these four forest defenders who stood between the critically endangered Swift Parrot’s survival and the government’s authorised chainsaws,” said Dr Lisa Searle Bob Brown Foundation Campaign Organiser.

“The path of extinction for Swift Parrots is being exacerbated by the Tasmanian and Australian governments, they are sanctioning this ongoing loss of critical breeding habitat,” said Jenny Weber Bob Brown Foundation Campaign Manager.
