Tasmania’s pristine waters and incredible marine ecosystems are under threat. Industrial fish farms are polluting our rivers, bays, and oceans—turning once-thriving habitats into toxic environments.

The critically endangered Maugean Skate teeters on the edge of extinction in Macquarie Harbour, native wildlife like Fur Seals are injured and killed, and invasive salmon threaten our natural biodiversity.

I am taking the pledge to no longer buy farmed salmon and call on you, the Federal Environment Minister and Tasmanian Premier, to remove industrial fish farms from Tasmania’s unique waters immediately.

I make this urgent demand knowing that:

• The Maugean Skate is on the edge of extinction due to fish farms in Macquarie Harbour.

• Salmon farms shoot, injure and even kill protected native wildlife such as Fur Seals.

• Cramming hundreds of thousands of salmon into a small pen causes injuries and suffering.

• Millions of salmon have escaped into Tasmania’s marine environment as an invasive species.

• Ecosystems and beaches get smothered in massive algal blooms caused by fish farms.

Fish farms must be removed from Tasmania’s waters to protect the incredible marine ecosystems that animals like the critically endangered Maugean Skate and the Red Handfish  call home.

This urgent call is driven by care for the future of life on Earth and our responsibility to ensure that Tasmania’s waterways are protected for generations to come. Please remove toxic fish farms. Now.
