Today at Eggs and Bacon Bay in southern Tasmania, hundreds of locals rallied and paddle out protesting the toxic fish farms that are destroying their waters. The Neighbours of Fish Farming (NOFF) rally comes off the back of a recent protest where activists scaled the worlds largest fish farming vessel.

Bob Brown Foundation is calling for Premier Rockliff to stop ignoring local communities and remove fish farms for Tasmania’s waters.

“I’m one of many local people impacted by the noise, nightlight and sea pollution of these invasive, foreign-owned fish pens. The federal minister for fisheries is local MP Julie Collins but she’s turned her back on the residents. Now the tide of public resentment is growing and the rally at Eggs and Bacon Bay shows how hundreds want their seaside values restored,” said Bob Brown.

“All around Tasmania’s coastlines, wherever there are fish farms, there are local communities that have had enough of these factory fish farms. They destroy the marine ecosystem, they pollute the waters and they steamroll over locals,” said Alistair Allan, Antarctic and Marine Campaigner at Bob Brown Foundation.
