Leonardo makes third appeal for Tasmania’s forests.

On the eve of the Tasmanian election, Leonardo DiCaprio has made a remarkable third call for an end to native forest logging. Pointedly,

DiCaprio’s posting to millions of followers worldwide says that there are parties vying for government in Tasmania who continue to back logging of nesting trees essential for the critically endangered Swift Parrots.

DiCaprio links with the Bob Brown Foundation which is campaigning to save the forests. “This is a call to end the needless destruction of Tasmania’s wild forests by voting for the candidates committed to a plantation-based future for the industry,” Brown said in Hobart this morning. “It is a stark choice.”

“Leonardo is a serious environmentalist. His call today is unprecedented. It is for Tasmania’s voters to see the seriousness of both the global heating and extinction crises and so not vote for the parties who support ongoing logging.”
