Liberal leader Peter Dutton willing to destroy Tasmania’s waters at the behest of big salmon companies

January 16, 2025

Today whilst visiting Tasmania, Liberal leader Peter Dutton signalled his commitment to ensuring the destruction of Tasmanian waterways at the hands of huge multi-national companies such as JBS and Cooke Aquaculture.

This commitment comes in the form of an outrageous suggestion that legislation should be proposed to protect the toxic salmon industry in Tasmania, despite their enormous environmental impact and pollution.

“The only legislation that needs proposing is for better marine protection around Tasmania,” said Alistair Allan, Bob Brown Foundation Antarctic and Marine Campaigner.

“Just this week, there have been community protests in Lyons rallying against salmon farm expansion, which both major parties are ignoring.”

“It’s very simple – these factory farms of the sea are destroying Tasmania’s waters and Tasmanians have had enough. It’s time for both Labor and Liberal to stop selling out our unique animals, and our pristine waters, to massive, foreign-owned, polluting companies.”

“This federal election will show that Tasmanians want fish farms out of our waters now,” said Alistair Allan
