Maydena forest protests continue

Forest protests have resumed today in contentious ancient forests at Maydena in Tasmania’s south. Bob Brown Foundation is urging Premier Rockliff to evict the logging machinery from the area.

After months of requests from local community members to remove the precious native forests from Forestry Tasmania’s logging schedule, the logging of these immense ancient forests near Maydena commenced last week.

Today, there is a second defiant stand this week. James Bracken (33) is protecting this forest where the industrial logging machinery meets the wild Tyenna tall trees.

Abutting the globally renowned Maydena mountain bike park, TN031B is a forgotten pocket just 400m away from the North Styx Conservation Area where tourists flock to see giant trees.

“These forests we have in lutruwita / Tasmania are unique and quintessential to the existence of our native wildlife, the health of our global carbon stores and our defence against bushfires,” said Erik Hayward
