Over 80 people have attended a six day activist training event at McKimmie Creek in Takayna hosted by Bob Brown Foundation. The event was timed to prepare activists ahead of summer logging planned in Takayna and further afield in the state.

“Takayna’s rainforests are again facing a summer of destruction, and our foundation is committed to being on the frontline defending against logging and mining activity,” said Bob Brown Foundation Takayna Campaigner Scott Jordan.

“We have been training volunteers in Non-Violent Direct Action, in camp management, climbing and a range of skills that they can put to use defending forests.”

“To have over 80 people attend exceeded our expectations and shows that the number of people prepared to stand up for our forests is growing despite the Tasmanian Government’s draconian and undemocratic anti-protest laws,” said Scott Jordan.

The site of the training was at McKimmie Creek where Bob Brown Foundation successfully halted rainforest logging in 2020 and has held out Chinese Government owned miner MMG’s plans to dump 25million cubic metres of acid producing sulphide tailings into the McKimmie Creek valley.

Renewed logging of McKimmie Creek has been scheduled for 2025. Bob Brown Foundation is maintaining a vigil camp on the site.
