Peregrine Falcon with Bird Flu in Tasmania stirs urgent call for action

September 4, 2026

“The discovery of this Peregrine Falcon with Bird Flu is sadly not surprising. The spread of the Bird Flu is only at its commencement in Tasmania, and it won’t stop overnight. What could stop overnight is the destruction of wildlife habitat,” said Jenny Weber, Bob Brown Foundation Campaigns Director.

The human induced Bird Flu now striking Tasmania will be worsened by Albanese’s government if it ignores immediate actions that it can take to prevent other human induced harms to wildlife such as habitat destruction.

“Ending native forest logging is a straightforward action that the Albanese government can and must take. Overnight the protection of forests from unnecessary logging can happen for the benefit of wildlife resilience and protection. Protecting the tens of thousands of migratory birds and critically important disease free population of Tasmanian Devils on Pilitika /Robbins Island is also an easy action by preventing the proposed windfarm,” said Jenny Weber.
