This morning, Bob Brown Foundation forest defenders are standing up for the protection of the Clarence and Wentworth Hills sub-alpine forests in Tasmania’s Central Highlands. Within a 20-kilometre radius, Forestry Tasmania is currently logging six ancient forests simultaneously.

“The scale and pace of Forestry Tasmania’s industrial clearfelling of ancient and fragile forests in Tasmania’s Central Highlands is a crime against our globally recognised wilderness,” said Bob Brown Foundation Campaigns Director Jenny Weber.

“Native forests with ancient trees are being felled faster here than anywhere else in lutruwita / Tasmania. These sensitive ecosystems are being cut, burned and irreparably damaged, accelerating climate change, worsening bushfires and pushing threatened species closer to extinction.”

“This morning, the ancient forest inside logging coupe WW007B and its precious wildlife are being protected from Forestry Tasmania’s chainsaws thanks to peaceful forest defenders.”

“Today, activists have created a sculpture of an eagle from logging debris inside the coupe. Like a sandcastle washed away by the tide, it symbolises how quickly these forests and the wildlife that depend on them are disappearing under Forestry Tasmania’s destruction,” said Aden Watchel from the forests, Campaigns Organiser with Bob Brown Foundation.

“Premier Jeremy Rockliff can stop this today. He can pick up the phone to Forestry Tasmania headquarters and turn off the chainsaws and evict the forest destroying machines from the Central Highlands immediately,” said Jenny Weber.
