The sixth annual takayna Trail ultra marathon has been run in the rainforests around Waratah today. 186 runners participated in this year’s event consisting of a 62km, a 37km and a 22km class raised over $300,000 for Bob Brown Foundation’s campaign to protect takayna/ Tarkine as a World Heritage Area.

“Every year this event grows and it’s contribution to protecting the amazing natural values of takayna grows along with the success of this event”, said Bob Brown Foundation takayna / Tatrkine Campaigner Scott Jordan.

“This is more than a fundraiser for us. Every runner gets to experience these rainforests intimately and they all go home ambassadors for this special place”.

Bob Brown was there to meet all of the runners as they crossed the finish line and thank them for their incredible contribution.

“Such happiness. It’s everywhere here. People from all over the country and some from overseas, running to save takayna and Tasmania’s magnificent forests and wildlife. It’s just a beautiful day, cloudless, in Waratah. What a wonderful way to experience the west coast and all it has to offer”, said Bob Brown
