Writer and music lover, Arjun von Caemmerer commissioned a work by virtuoso pianist and composer Michael Kieran Harvey: a musical portrait of environmental campaigner and former Greens Parliamentary Leader, Bob Brown.
Having worked previously with violinist, Emily Sheppard, Harvey wrote a piece for piano and violin. The collaboration resulted in a concert at the Tasmanian Conservatorium, which included this work, readings from Arjun’s poetry collection, Vice Versa, and an improvisatory work by Sheppard. An adaptation of Harvey’s Homage to Liszt written to include Sheppard was also performed. These are the three pieces on this album. All three collaborators are Tasmanians, and the project is an example of how passionate environmental activists can use music to highlight issues affecting not only the local, but the global.
